The challenge

Mr. Vincent Kadaala wanted to construct a residential house at Block 182 Plot 1262, Kiira Division, Uganda. SADRiNE Consulting Group Limited was entrusted to carry out a thorough geotechnical investigation for the design and construction of a suitable foundation for the proposed development. Generally, the aim of the investigation was to;

  • Provide general descriptions of the subsurface soil conditions encountered at the locations explored;
  • Provide details and information relevant for foundation design; and

To foresee possible setbacks that may arise during construction

The services

Subsurface Explorations

Two (2) trial pits were dug by a peak axe up to 1m and were logged, monitored for ground water table and sampled before back filling was done.

Sample Recovery

We recovered both disturbed and undisturbed samples at the bottom of each test pit excavated;

Insitu testing

Conducted Dynamic Cone Penetrometer (DCP) testing at the bottom of each test/trial pit to assess the in-situ bearing capacity;

Laboratory Testing

We performed laboratory testing including classification tests (Natural moisture content, Particle size distribution, Atterberg Limits);

Report writing: We compiled the geotechnical investigations report comprising of our findings of the subsurface soil conditions, engineering analyses made on the laboratory tests and recommendations on the type and depth of foundation to be used.
