The challenge

BUILDNET CONSTRUCTION MATERIALS AND HARDWARE LIMITED proposed mixed developments on Plot No. 68 Block No. 219, Najjera, Kira Municipality, Wakiso District. SADRiNE Consulting Group Limited was entrusted to carry out a thorough geotechnical investigation for the design and construction of a suitable foundation for the proposed mixed development. The scope of the services included:

  • To describe and present the fieldwork and laboratory testing carried out during the investigation;
  • To assess the site geotechnical characteristics of the subsoil materials with respect to suitability for the proposed developments and engineering services; and
  • To recommend sound and economic development practices and initial founding guidelines to ensure long-term stability of the developments based on the geotechnical conditions encountered.

The services

Data Review

Reviewed published geologic maps, aerial photographs, in-house documents, and other literature pertaining to the site to aid in evaluating geologic conditions and the regional geologic regime for use in the analysis,

Site Reconnaissance

Performed a site reconnaissance to review general site conditions and performed onsite geologic observations,

Subsurface Investigation

Eight pits were dug by a peak axe up to 1.0 m and disturbed samples obtained at the bottom of the pits. DCP tests were conducted from the end of the pits up to 2.0 m. These data were used to develop a subsurface profile used in analysis,

Laboratory Testing

We conducted a laboratory testing program that included eight sieve analysis tests and eight Atterberg limit tests according to British Standards.
