Design and Build of Pagada Bridge in Ayuu Alali Parish, Palabek Kal Subcounty, Lamwo District, Uganda

Pagada Bridge, located along the Aswa River in Lamwo District, Uganda, is a critical infrastructure connecting the sub-counties of Lokung and Palabek Kal. The previous 30-meter-long concrete bridge, constructed by the Lamwo District Local Government in 2017/2018, collapsed in August 2018 due to heavy truck loads, disrupting the movement of people and goods. To address this, M/S KWED Construction Ltd contracted SADRiNE Infrastructure Services (SID) Limited to conduct geotechnical investigations at the proposed construction site to facilitate the design of appropriate foundations and earthworks.
The geotechnical investigations, conducted from September 5th to 13th, 2023, aimed to determine the physical and engineering properties of the subsurface soils. This involved core drilling, logging of boreholes, and laboratory testing of soil samples. The findings provided critical data for the structural design of the new bridge, ensuring it meets the necessary technical, safety, and sustainability standards to restore and enhance connectivity in the region.
