Feasibility Studies and Design of Piped Water System at Nabilatuk District H/Qs and Nacele Village

Nabilatuk District in Uganda faced significant challenges with water scarcity and inadequate sanitation. To address these issues, the local government launched a strategic initiative targeting two key Rural Growth Centres (RGCs): the District Headquarters and Lolachat Subcounty in Lokitela and Trade Center West villages. Driven by rapid population growth and rising demand for clean water, the district allocated funds from both Central Government and donor sources to improve water supply and sanitation infrastructure in these underserved areas. The project focused on expanding access to piped water, enhancing sanitation infrastructure, embracing innovative water treatment technologies, and protecting water sources through catchment protection measures. On December 15th, 2023, Nabilatuk District partnered with SADRiNE Infrastructure Services (SID) Limited to conduct comprehensive feasibility studies and develop detailed designs for the water supply systems, laying the groundwork for the construction phase.
The assignment aimed to undertake a feasibility study, detailed designs, and preparation of tender documents for constructing water supply systems in Nabilatuk District Headquarters and Lolachat Subcounty. The project sought to improve socio-economic conditions by providing safe, reliable water supply and sanitation facilities, thereby reducing waterborne diseases and empowering communities. The scope included assessing water demand, conducting hydrogeological investigations, designing water supply and sanitation systems, and preparing engineering and environmental reports. This initiative also emphasized the use of renewable energy and ecological sanitation technologies, aiming to contribute to environmental protection and address gender issues by involving both sexes as decision-makers.
