The study encompassed assessments at the feasibility level and the preliminary design of selected earth dams and multi-purpose water conveyance systems to ensure water security within the identified study areas, with a broad measure of social equity. The project aimed at multi-purpose benefits that were cost-effective and socially and environmentally acceptable. The overall objective of the assignment was to provide a range of options for multi-purpose water supply for livestock and irrigation development in a manner that was technically feasible, financially responsible, and environmentally sustainable, based on a workable and cost-effective management approach.
The specific objectives of the assignment included conducting relevant technical investigations and studies, comprising water resources assessment, socio-economic assessment, agronomy studies, topographical surveys, geotechnical investigations, and hydraulic studies. Additionally, detailed engineering designs and cost estimates were prepared, along with performing financial and economic analyses, which formed the basis for investment finance mobilization and project implementation for the various sub-projects identified by the study.
