Mad Woman
A few weeks back, I was driving from Kajjansi through Entebbe Expressway to my workstation in Nansana. As I was exiting the Expressway to join the Northern Bypass, I saw a mad woman rushing to the middle of the road and picking up a dead dog. All the cars stopped for a few seconds. She then threw it into the nearby swamp and continued moving. We also continued driving our cars. It looked like the dog had been there for sometime and all the cars were just going over it creating more mess onto the road.
Light-Bulb Moment
As I continued driving on the Northern Bypass, I reflected on the incident. I asked myself “Between the mad woman and us who were in our cars driving, who was really and practically mad at that time”. The ones who continued driving over the dead dog causing more mess on the road or the one who picked the dog and threw it away. As you answer that question, remember that ““Until the Lion tells the story, the hunter will always be the hero.” But also, how many drivers who witnessed that incident, were humble enough to learn from the mad woman.
Lesson for Us
In 2 Kings 5:1-14, the Bible talks about Naaman who was commander of the army of the king of Syria. He was considered a great man by his king, highly respected and a man of courage. But he was a leper. Naaman’s healing came through a little girl he had taken captive from Israel and now worked as slave in his house. How many of us are willing to listen to our maids in regards to important matters in our families? Maybe that is too low. How many of us are willing to listen to our juniors before making important decisions in our day-to-day work? Personally I have learnt a lot from my juniors. And I know you will gain a lot if you create an environment where your juniors are encouraged to challenge you. Before that, deal with your insecurities.
